GS Mark
Print this page

The GS Mark is a voluntary safety mark which is highly regarded and valued by German consumers and manufacturers alike. Many consumers see the GS Mark as proof of quality. Research has shown that German consumers are ready to pay a higher price if there is a strong certification mark on the product. That is where the GS Mark can become valuable for you.

Intertek accredited by the German government
Any electrical, mechanical or electro-mechanical product bearing the GS Mark has been tested to, and complies with, the minimum requirements of the German Equipment and Product Safety Act (a.k.a. GPSG). The GS Mark (GS stands for Geprüfte Sicherheit – ‘Safety Tested’) is a licensed mark of the German government and may only be issued by an accredited product safety testing and certification agency. A GS Mark issued by Intertek will carry its ‘S Mark’ identifier above the mark. Intertek is one of the most well-known providers of GS certificates in Asian countries.

Benefits of independent certification:

  • The independent testing and certification process minimises manufacturers' risk of product liability issues through third party testing and follow up. You safeguard your brand’s reputation by making sure it will not be put at risk by a safety failure, and reduce the possibility of your products being taken off the market because of a failure to meet legal requirements.

  • If an independently certified product is disputed in court (e.g. regarding product liability legislation) the issuing certification body may assist the manufacturer by providing evidence that the product was tested before it was marketed.

  • Certification is a powerful marketing tool that adds value to the brand, e.g. that they are safe or environmentally friendly, which instils a strong sense of confidence among customers. The certification can be used in product catalogues and adverts etc.
