Electrical & Electronic Equipment
The higher volume of new electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) entering the European Union (EU) market coincides with rapid growth in the amount of waste products generated. As many such products contain hazardous materials, the EU has now targeted this waste with two complimentary new directives: The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2002/96/EC, as amended by 2003/108/EC, covers the eco-management of WEEE, while the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive 2002/95/EC bans certain hazardous substances from use in new EEE.
